Standing in the crowd before this show I was talking with a fellow photog about the Barrington Levy show we had seen earlier; indeed epic.
“It was the best show of the year” he told me.
Just then a woman in the crowd flippantly interjected, “yeah, but have you seen these guys before??” I wrote it off as being a drink fueled statement. I was wrong.
Immediately afterwards the stage was filled with such a frenzy it is difficult to put into words. Possibly 5 to 7 musicians (lost count) bombed aboard, with an energy so big they could have filled Roger’s Arena. These local pros literally embody their name, with a most unique fusion of Indian music (Dehli) and Irish music (Dublin). Complete with two fiddles, tablas, and even sitars, they raged around pumping out incredible energy and sound.
But it doesn’t stop there. Being a Vancouver show savant, I am used to the most enthusiastic crowds giving up only head bobs and the occasional indifferent arm-wave. In this case I may have been teleported to a city that gives a damn, because the packed Commodore was full of maniacally excited fans! The energy level was practically unprecedented!
If you have not experienced these guys, I urge you: Do It!! Best show of the year? Most definitely in the ranks.
